Oh! Hello. I didn't see you there!

Well, truth be told, I did, but you're such a devoted slave that I come to regard you the same way as I would a favorite piece of furniture. Something I mostly acknowledge only when I want to use it.

How does that make you feel? To know that on My way across the room, I may cast a fleeting, fond smile on you, congratulating Myself on My good taste, but only on My way to do something else?

Like a comfy chair that I picked out from among all the others, I could have chosen because of the special qualities that make it exactly the chair I need, all the while both of U/s knowing that it's only that--a chair. Something I own that, while beloved, has a function, and outside of that, often escapes notice?

You see, the chair is treasured, but it wouldn't make much sense to have conversations with it, would it?

Who talks to a chair, after all?

No, what I want from a chair is for it to be dependable and to maintain all the qualities that made Me want it in the first place. To stay where it is, silent, as inanimate objects are wont to be and ever ready for Me to drop into it for a nice, relaxing snuggle.

And that's what I want from you, too. To know that your devotion is such that it's enough for you to exist in the same space that I occupy, even virtually. To return from a fragrant bath to see that you're still there, just being a dependable possession. To enjoy an unselfconscious snack, knowing that, as a silent possession, you won't judge Me.

Are you capable of being this kind of silent, dependable, special possession? More importantly, perhaps, do you long to be?
